Verdict
Silent Majority was another excellent audio story in the Silenced boxset. This third series of the UNIT spin-off is turning into something quite brilliant and I am absolutely delighted that this is the case. The potential was always there with the cast and characters but the calibre of enemy is definitely giving this series an extra edge. The Silence are fantastic and having them deal with the troubles imposed on them by the Doctor in The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon is excellent. Their plan to stop humanity from killing them on sight reached its conclusion here and I loved the political connection. This story's title gets a big thumbs up from me and I just really enjoyed the idea of the Silence playing a part in a General Election. They had of course been rigging the election and the polls with their own cryptic messages hidden in propaganda videos and whatnot but it was for a totally different reason than what first appeared. It seemed that the Silence wanted to control the Prime Minister and had chosen Kenneth LeBlanc as their man but Kate deduced that they would have no actual need for power. Their memory altering was more than fitting. She knew that they were after something else and once Sam had found them in the video of the Moon Landing, Kate's mind began to tick into gear. She thought that it might have been the Doctor who had orchestrated them giving their own death sentence and now she was aiming to prevent a massacre. The Silence needed a global story to send the counter-command out in a worldwide news video and the prospect of both the outgoing and incoming Prime Ministers getting assassinated on live television definitely would do the trick. It was horrifying but brilliant. The Silence didn't care for LeBlanc at all, he was just part of their plan for global attention. I thought that was a terrific twist and it was certainly one I did not see coming! UNIT managed to intervene before there was a massacre but the Silence still got a message out there and went some way to ensuring their survival. Their message told those watching that their image meant nothing and once Kate and the team got around to watching the video to try and decipher its contents and see if the Silence implemented anything else, they were doomed. As soon as the video concluded, the Silence meant nothing. How can UNIT plan to defeat them when their image literally means nothing? I thought it was a brilliant cliffhanger and I can't wait to hear how things conclude. Overall, an excellent audio!
